Stairs Renovation Experts
Transforming Your Staircase Style
Staircase renovations are gaining popularity, often driven by the need to update old homes with outdated banisters or damaged spindles. Although stairs may appear to be a minor aspect of a home, their function is equally as important as their style. At RG Carpentry and Construction, the most awarded Chelmsford Essex carpenters, we specialise in all facets of staircase renovation.
A staircase can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, enhancing the interior décor of your home. Whether you need a complete staircase replacement or prefer smaller yet impactful updates such as new handrails and spindles, RG Carpentry and Construction can help with all your needs.
Additionally, depending on the location and positioning of your stairs, we can incorporate additional storage or create usable space underneath.
Stairscase Project Brief
1
The client came to me expressing how their current hallway was long, narrow and made the middle of the house very dark and almost tunnel-like.
They desired to open up this area and bring more light into the space, as the previous design had an adverse effect.
Prior Considerations
Staircase renovations can sometimes be quite deceptive, as there can be more involved than simply replacing the stairs. As was the case with this project as it required the removal of a load-bearing wall.
Liaising with my structural engineer, they provided drawings and had steel made to support the top story of the house. After removing the wall and installing the steel, I was able to open up the staircase and fully renovate it to become the central feature of their home.
There Is Always a Solution
Staircase renovations don’t typically require the removal of a load-bearing wall. Still, obstacles of this nature are vital to understand as they can increase or alter the general flow of work.
As someone that’s been doing this for a while, you start to anticipate additional constraints/requirements such as these while working on projects. Thus, if you want to contact someone to help, don’t be afraid to just because your needs are unique.
Stairscase Project Installation

The installation was smooth and perfect from start to finish. As additional time was spent communicating with the client on their needs and with my engineer, we had a great plan in place from the start and an equally fantastic team to bring it to life.
The initial set-up of the job required additional consultation and communication. However, this is what enables a smooth installation.
Stairscase Project Final Results

Personally, nothing says a statement piece like an oak staircase, and it really brings the home to life.
By offering a smooth, open transition from the front room through to the open-plan kitchen diner, the house feels more open; there’s more light and not a tunnel in sight.
