Kitchen Project Brief
This client came to me expressing their desire to upgrade their kitchen. After deciding to remain in their current home instead of moving, they figured it was the perfect time to proceed with a kitchen project.
Before contacting me, they had made a concrete decision to invest in the “white in frame” kitchen from DIY kitchens; however, as it is a supply-only company, they weren’t able to leverage a design service and were unsure how to take this kitchen idea any further.
Considerations
When working on kitchen projects, it is crucial I get a firm understanding of what is needed. Any miscommunication can cause disaster for a project of this scale and cost. After communicating diligently with the client, I was able to visit their home to get an in-person grasp of the total space. From here, I could supply a complete CAD kitchen design, with layout plans and CGIs for approval, and after some revisions, their dream plan was in place.
This would involve ripping out the existing placements, forming a new opening to install a window, installation of electric underfloor heating with tiling, rewiring of electrics with new sockets and fuse board, re-plastering, installation of the entire kitchen and a complete redecoration.
Purpose Built
The original kitchen was a long, narrow galley kitchen, which created limited space for use and a ‘small’ atmosphere.
It was vital to create a kitchen that felt and looked large than it was, with a practical layout to work well for a small family with two teenage children.
These ideas formed the base of the proposed plan, allowing us to focus on building something practical without compromising on what the client had initially envisioned.

Kitchen renovations can be extremely stressful if not planned correctly. Not only can minor hiccups occur that can cause delays, but clients are also without facilities for a while. Thus, every additional day is more impactful on their lives, which we don’t want to cause.
Due to the time investment into CAD drawings and the planning stage, the installation ran perfectly. Each day of the project was planned within a schedule of works, which the client had a copy of, including trade details.
As the project manager, I managed the job to enable the use of appliances up until the very last minute possible, to help minimise disruptions. Additionally, I helped set up a small tea room in the client’s spare room for use during the project.

Quite possibly the most unbelievable transformation thus far. From a dark, run-down, out-of-date kitchen to a new high-spec ergonomically designed kitchen that’s fresh, smart and built without compromising on the client’s original dream.
The clients were so happy with the standard of work that they contacted me again to continue flooring, plastering and decorating the hallway.
