Welcome to RG Carpentry & Construction Ltd, we are a carpentry-led business based in Chelmsford and working throughout Essex who specialise in high spec Media Wall Installation and Library Installation.

Project Brief: A Traditional Fitted Library Room

Our clients came to us for advice on how to install the perfect Library room into a Grade 2 Listed property in Wivenhoe, Colchester.
With very clear direction on what the space was to be used for and with style inspiration ready to show, the initial design consultation went very well.
We took on board all of our clients ideas as well as taking note of the period features already in the room so we could incorporate as much as possible into the newly fitted furniture, one of the many precise requests was to make the new library look in keeping with the original woodwork whilst still giving that striking brand new feel.
Pre Planning: Sourcing Period Mouldings & Designing
We spent time researching the period of the wood work in the room and found near identical mouldings which would work so well within our new design.
We were also entrusted to include some of our own ideas which involved a decorative cornice to the top of the cabinetry, as well as some fluted feature pilasters which were popular among grand buildings in Great Britain in the 1800s which was the period this property was built in.
Client Liaison: Presenting Ideas & Working Together
After fully designing the new Library Room in CAD, we held another consultation to run through the design and present our additional ideas to ensure everything was perfect prior to installation.
Our client was thoroughly impressed with the detailed visualisation and the innovative suggestions we provided. They soon gave us the approval to begin manufacturing the custom elements, ensuring everything would be ready for installation as planned.
Installation: 1800’s Architecture With Modern Precision

As with all of our fitted units we designed and created a cutlist in CAD and then manufactured all of our cabinetry off site, including 5 Piece shaker doors and cutting and edging all of our panels.
Using this method allows much greater quality and precision as well as less disruption to the homeowners.
Once the cabinetry was installed we handed over to our professional spray finisher to prep and fully finish the units in Farrow and Ball “Hague Blue”
The Finished Project: The Perfect Gentleman’s Library Room

Still one of our favourite projects to date this library room could not have come out better, fitting in perfectly with the period features of the property as well as providing ample storage.
The library was part of a Gentleman’s room which was uniquely styled by the homeowner with many features, such as a reclaimed chess board and antique scuba equipment.
