Project Brief: Transforming a Decade-Long Dream

This kitchen was part of a wider project we were involved in, forming a 2-story extension for a client. The brief was very important as the clients had been saving up for this renovation for over a decade.
The existing kitchen was cramped and poorly laid out, so we had to make sure everything was thought of and planned well so they could finally get the space and functionality they deserved.
Pre-Planning: Tailored Design Consultation
After completing a concise design consultation, I sent the brief and site dimensions to my designer at Howdens, where the clients had seen the kitchen they wanted.
We presented the initial design plans to the client, and the design and layout were perfect the first time around.
We upgraded a few of the appliances supplied to allow more functionality when cooking, including upgrading the oven to a dual zone with various preset modes to allow for cooking multiple meals at the same time in the same oven.
Client Liaison: Strategic Planning for Timely Completion
Before work began, we confirmed the schedule of work with the client and made sure everything was booked to run smoothly.
This was even more critical than normal as the kitchen was due to be completed before Christmas to host the family’s Christmas dinner. We couldn’t afford any delays as this would cause major impacts with suppliers and trades shutting down for Christmas.
We also helped by providing granite samples for the client to choose from for the worktop installation.
Installation: Streamlined Project Management

The installation was project managed by ourselves, and all trades were liaised with to enable a streamlined installation. First-fix electrics and plumbing were installed and set out before cabinetry arrived on site.
Once the cabinetry installation began, the clients were very excited at the size and amount of storage the new kitchen provided in comparison to the old kitchen. Once cabinetry was fully fitted, the worktop template was taken and manufactured off-site and returned a week later to install.
The worktop chosen for this project was solid granite “Angola Black,” and it has the most incredible depth and textured detail on the surface, which catches the light perfectly. Once the worktops were on, the second-fix appliances were completed. Karndean LVT was laid, and the kitchen was decorated to the client’s requirements.

A timeless kitchen style that will never go out of fashion, finished in cashmere, ensures it will always fit in well with the current interior décor and colours.
This was the flagship range from Howdens with solid ash 22mm doors spray-finished. It was a compliment to hear that the clients were not only over the moon with the quality of the installation but also that we had captured their every request in terms of layout and functionality for a family to cook which had greatly improved their everyday life.
The clients also commented on how much of an improvement it was whilst hosting friends and family for dinner, with the new island creating a great social area which also allowed the food and drinks to be presented away from the dining table.
